Bryophytes

This is a pic i took into a microscope. not bad really. colour is a bit off. There are the liverworts Riccardia crassa and Bazzania adnexa, and possibly a bit of the moss Dicranoloma billarderi in there too. I looked at entire logs in forests coveren in these and identified all of them. (as part of my thesis). And these species you see here are the easy ones. imagine this (a photo about 3-4 times the actual size) covering a 20x10cm patch on a log, and over the course of 7 months dong 1080 20x10cm quadrats. that is a crapload of moss to identify. i found 75 species and now i know every one
